Lithuanian LIFE IP project commences

First Lithuanian LIFE Integrated Project “Optimizing the management of Natura 2000 network in Lithuania” (LIFE-IP PAF-NATURALIT) started on the 1st of January 2018.

The project aims to implement the Prioritised Action Framework (PAF) for the Natura 2000 network management. The duration of the project is 10 years with the budget of 17.000.044 Eur.

The coordinating beneficiary is Environmental Projects Management Agency under Ministry of Environment of Republic of Lithuania (EPMA). The project will also include various associated beneficiaries: Ministry of Environment of Republic of Lithuania, State Service for Protected Areas under the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania, Aukštaitija National Park and Labanoras Regional Park Administration, Dzūkija National Park and Čepkeliai Strict Nature Reserve Administration, Žemaitija National Park Administration, Baltic Environmental Forum Lithuania, Aleksandras Stulginskis University (Faculty of Forest Science and Ecology, Institute of Forest Biology and Silviculture), Varėna State Forest Enterprise, Druskininkai State Forest Enterprise.

IP will be focused on following specific objectives:

(1) setting specific measurable, attainable, realistic, timely conservation objectives for Natura 2000 network at national and local levels, in line with defined favorable reference values of natural habitats and species of Community interests;

(2) improving efficiency of management, surveillance and analysis processes towards achieving and maintaining favourable conservation status of protected species and habitats;

(3) assurance of the integration and implementation of the nature conservation measures into other sectors, especially agriculture, forestry and tourism;

(4) capacity building of the institutions responsible for the implementation of Prioritised Action Framework (PAF) for the Natura 2000 network management.

LIFE Baltic networking meeting 2018

The third annual LIFE Baltic networking meeting will take place in Lithuania on the 20th and 21st of September. This meeting is a great opportunity for the LIFE community to meet and discuss the implementation, issues of LIFE projects. The event is an opportunity for all those in the Baltic Sea region working with LIFE programme to meet one another and exchange experiences, it is a networking opportunity for current and future projects as well as a chance to learn more about what happens in neighbor countries. The event will be attended by LIFE projects', capacity building projects' groups of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Denmark, LIFE NCP of all Baltic states. There will be a mix of field trips to local LIFE projects and other places of interest, and work at the main venue - Amberton Hotel Klaipėda. Field trips will include visiting Lithuanian LIFE project LIFEMagniDucatusAcrola LIFE15 NAT/LT/001024 (biomass processing plant, educational trail through the habitat of aquatic warbler), Ventes Ragas Ornithological station (excursion, migratory bird watching, museum).
